Breath

James Mackenzie

‘Breath’  an original acrylic on canvas by James Mackenzie.

This piece reflects James’s unique ‘natural’ style, where he lets his subconscious guide the creative process, bringing to life landscapes inspired by his memories.

This piece was inspired by a memorable walking holiday James shared with his father-in-law, Nick, along The Ridgeway known as Britain’s oldest road. Used for over 5,000 years as a trading route, The Ridgeway’s high, dry ground offered easy passage and safety, thanks to its commanding views over the countryside. Stretching an impressive 87 miles to Hertfordshire, it’s a path steeped in history.

James and Nick began their journey at Avebury in Wiltshire, home to the iconic Neolithic Avebury Stone Circle. Their route crossed Overton Hill, part of the Marlborough Downs, passing several Neolithic round barrows (ancient burial mounds) and Iron Age forts. While soaking in the breathtaking views of the rolling English countryside, rich with history, they shared many a laugh and created cherished memories.

This special moment is now beautifully captured in art, bringing the essence of that journey to life for others to enjoy.

‘Breath’ serves as a beautiful reminder to pause, take a deep breath, and appreciate life’s simple moments.  The piece was named by a friend of James’, who shared that ‘Breath’ was the first word that came to mind when she saw the painting.

This stunning piece will be the inspiration for Art & Sip’s upcoming Mother’s Day Acrylic Painting Workshop. Join us on March 29th for a guided acrylic session to recreate ‘Breath’ paired with a delightful Afternoon Tea. For more details, click here.
